Feeling the future, precognitive memory, physical responses to future events, and how studying after a test can improve your test scores.  Scientific studies that have explored these events call into question our perception of time.  Based on these studies, this course will explore theories of time in physics and philosophy.

Course Description

Are you interested in writing about paranormal phenomena or psychic experiences?

This six-week course is a continuation of Writing About Your Experiences - Part I, but it focuses the creation of a longer, book-length manuscript. Your project can relate to any genre: memoir, fiction, reportage, etc., and you do not have to write a complete book during this class.  A number of chapters can get you started on your way to a fully developed book.

The first two weeks of the course will focus on purpose, organization, structure, and marketing.  A gap of over a month will provide the opportunity for you to write some chapters that will be used for the final four weeks of the course when we will focus on critiquing and revising these chapters.  Many people feel that it's hard to write without an audience in mind; in this class, you'll have an ideal one — other students interested in paranormal experiences.

REQUIREMENTS: You should have taken Writing About Your Experience - Part I or have extensive writing experience in order to get the most out of this course.

This class has limited enrollment to facilitate discussion and review.

When: Live broadcasts once a week or watch the class recordings at your convenience.

Course Description

This fun 8 week academic course will explore how popular culture is influenced by psi experiences, beliefs, and misconceptions about the phenomena.  More importantly, it will explore how media representations of psi influence the public's misconceptions and beliefs in and about psi, even to the point of affecting people's perceptions of the experiences when they happen. Research in Parapsychology and the observed phenomena of psi will be compared with representations of psi as it appears in literature (including comic books), both scripted and reality TV, film, radio, and many other sources on the internet.

This course will involve watching films and clips of TV shows as well as readings in popular literature and comics in order to facilitate the academic discussion of psi and the media.
